The rites of Umrah, step by step

A clear, step-by-step explanation of Ihram, Tawaf, Sa'i and Tahallul — so you arrive prepared and at ease.

Umrah is performed in a clear sequence of rites. Your Golden Umrah guide walks you through each step in person — but here is a simple overview so you arrive prepared and at ease.

1. Ihram & intention

Before reaching the appointed boundary (the miqat), you enter the state of ihram, make your intention (niyyah) for Umrah, and begin reciting the Talbiyah: "Labbayk Allahumma labbayk…"

2. Tawaf

On arriving at Masjid al-Haram, you perform Tawaf — circling the Kaaba seven times in a counter-clockwise direction, beginning at the Black Stone. Afterwards, you pray two units (rak'ahs) near the Station of Ibrahim if possible.

3. Sa'i

You then perform Sa'i — walking seven times between the hills of Safa and Marwah, following the footsteps of Hajar (peace be upon her) as she searched for water for her son Ismail.

4. Tahallul

Finally, you trim or shave the hair. Men may shave or trim; women trim a small length. This completes your Umrah, and you exit the state of ihram.

Throughout, your guide helps with the supplications, the crowds and the practical details — so you can give your heart fully to the worship.
This is a simplified overview, not a complete fiqh manual. We encourage every pilgrim to learn the rites in detail; our guides and advisors are always happy to explain more.
